When is the best time of year to pour in Albany?

Late spring through early fall is the easiest window. Concrete can be poured in the wet season, but rain on fresh concrete can ruin the surface, and cold nights slow curing, so winter pours depend on the forecast and on protection such as covers and curing blankets. Why does concrete crack, and what controls it?
